The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame says, “The Drifters served to link Fifties rhythm & blues with Sixties soul music. They epitomized the vocal group sound of New York City. Theirs was the sweet but streetwise sound of R&B suffused with gospel influences.”
The legend of The Drifters continues today with the founder’s son, Ronn David McPhatter, following in his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame father’s footsteps. Along with group members Andre Reina, Larry Hines and Stephon Jones, Clyde McPhatter’s Drifters featuring Ronn David McPhatter continue to thrill audiences all across the country performing all of the Legendary Drifter hits.
The Legendary Coasters have the distinction of becoming the first vocal group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987. It has been reported that the renowned song writing team of Leiber and Stoller found a relationship with the ensemble that was near magic. The hits just kept coming and became a major portion of the musical score that was retrospective of Leiber and Stoller. The Coasters recently toured some forty Performing Arts venues in the highly acclaimed revival of “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” winning full audience standing ovations each night before singing their first note.Their songs are unique because they are infused with humor and a special wink that always lets their audience in on the fun.
The Platters are an American vocal group formed in 1952. They are one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era with hits like The Great Pretender, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, My Prayer, The Magic Touch, and Only You. Frankie Pizarro has toured the world as the lead singer of The Platters, and continues to wow audiences around the world.
