Support Your Local Chamber Day Oct 15

Learn more about the legacy and services of your Southern Ocean Chamber

Let us take time to recognize “Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day”, celebrated on October 15, 2025, and the vital role professional chambers play in shaping strong, resilient communities. We are fortunate to continue the tradition that is the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce for nearly 112 years. The best way to honor this organization is to use the services of local chamber businesses.

Founded in 1914 as the LBI Board of Trade, the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce has evolved into one of the oldest continuously operating chambers in the United States. Its roots stretch deep into the sands of Long Beach Island and mainland communities where local business leaders first came together to promote commerce and tourism in the region. Over the decades, the chamber has grown in scope and influence, becoming a professionally managed organization that consistently ranks among New Jersey’s top chambers. Its longevity and impact are a testament to its unwavering commitment to supporting local businesses, fostering economic development, and enhancing the quality of life in Southern Ocean County.

Throughout its history, the chamber has championed initiatives that have shaped the region’s identity. From promoting and sharing stories of our region as a premier destination to advocating for infrastructure improvements and small business support, the chamber has been at the forefront of progress. Its programs have helped countless entrepreneurs launch and sustain their ventures, while its events have drawn visitors and residents together in celebration of local culture and commerce.  In 2017, the chamber expanded its mission with the creation of the Southern Ocean Chamber Association (SOCA), a nonprofit arm designed to deepen its community impact. SOCA focuses on educational outreach, workforce development, and strategic partnerships that address long-term regional needs. Through SOCA, the chamber has been able to secure grants, host training programs, and provide scholarships to our three area high schools to prepare the next generation of business leaders. This dual structure—combining the chamber’s advocacy and networking power with SOCA’s philanthropic and educational focus—has positioned Southern Ocean County as a model for chamber innovation statewide. As we mark Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day, the Southern Ocean County Chamber continues to add new programs while this century-old institution remains rooted in its community while embracing the future. Its legacy is not just in the businesses it has helped grow, but in the people who have and continue to volunteer their leadership to shape the region.
